Open Call: 3rd Edition of the «Ámeto Mítico» Itinerant Poetry Residencies on the Way of St. James

The Uxío Novoneyra Foundation announces the open call for the third edition of its itinerant poetry residencies along the Camiño de Santiago, an initiative supported by the Regional Government of Galicia’s «O teu Xacobeo» programme and Creative Europe.
We are seeking poets interested in walking the Way and writing about the Jacobean pilgrimage experience.

The «Ámeto Mítico» residency aims to revitalise the heritage of Galician-Portuguese troubadour poetry, shaped by the influence of Occitan Provençal lyric poetry and other traditions—such as Sufi poetry—that reached Galicia along the historic pilgrimage routes.

Our goal is to reactivate this intangible cultural heritage and support poets through the pilgrimage experience, promoting the Camiño de Santiago as a living, mythical landscape for contemporary poetic creation.

Drawing inspiration from the routes outlined in Arrodeos e desvíos do Camiño de Santiago, the final poetry collection by Uxío Novoneyra—himself a celebrated moderniser of the troubadour tradition—we are offering six (6) writing and pilgrimage residencies along the Jacobean routes across Galicia.

This open call is framed within the Regional Government of Galicia’s «O teu Xacobeo» programme and forms part of the Creative Europe project «BE(P)ART: Grow With Arts», which aims to bring literary creation closer to younger generations through participatory methodologies and collaborative networking.

Programme

Arrival: Reception of the poets at Santiago de Compostela Airport (Lavacolla) / Santiago Intermodal Station.
Orientation Session: Planning and briefing with the coordination team at the Uxío Novoneyra Foundation headquarters (O Courel).
Pilgrimage: Walking the French Way (Camiño Francés) from Villafranca del Bierzo to Santiago de Compostela.
Transfer: Santiago de Compostela – O Courel.
Educational Outreach: Poetry readings and creative writing workshops across eight (8) schools in municipalities along the French Way.
Public Reading: Jacobean poetry recital at the Uxío Novoneyra Foundation (O Courel).
Departure: Return travel from Santiago de Compostela.

The Foundation will cover all hospitality expenses, including local transport, materials and documentation, accommodation, and meals for the poets throughout the residency period.

How to Apply

Interested poets must send the following materials to ametomitico@uxionovoneyra.com:

Letter of motivation / Expression of interest.
Up-to-date CV / Literary resume.
Full contact details.
Copy of ID card / Passport.
A representative sample of published poetry (minimum of 100 lines/verses).

A selection committee composed of three (3) board members and/or artistic advisors of the Uxío Novoneyra Foundation will evaluate the submissions and select the grantees.

The list of selected poets will be published on the Foundation’s official social media channels and on this website. The Foundation will contact the successful applicants directly to confirm their participation in the 3rd Edition of the «Ámeto Mítico» Residencies on the Camino de Santiago.

In this edition, the «Ámeto Mítico» itinerant residencies are part of the BE(P)ART: Grow With Arts project, an initiative co-funded by the European Union’s Creative Europe programme.

The objective of BE(P)ART is to bring literary creation closer to youth and foster audience development through participatory, networked methodologies.
