Established in 2011 as a non-profit foundation of cultural interest, the Uxío Novoneyra Foundation pursues the following aims:
The Foundation shares the legacy of the poet of O Courel, safeguarding his work and passing it on to future generations.
Our journey began around the tenth anniversary of the poet’s passing, when the Royal Galician Academy announced that Galician Literature Day 2010 would be dedicated to his figure. At that time, family and close friends reimagined the ancestral home and set out to restore it, opening up the birthplace of Novoneyra to the world: the village of Parada, nestled in the very heart of the Serra do Courel. It was here that he spent most of his life, writing his most celebrated collection and the bulk of his poetic oeuvre.
Guided by our founding mission, we pursue diverse lines of action through a collaborative and networked approach. We established the foundation’s headquarters at Casa da Fonte, now open to the public, and built up its documentary, literary, and historical archive.
From Parada, we run educational outreach programmes in schools and participate in European projects—work that has positioned us as a benchmark for innovation, sustainability, and European connectivity across Galicia and Northwestern Iberia. We also organize the Festival Dos Eidos (Eidos Fest), host literary residencies, and carry out environmental initiatives in the Courel mountains, an isolated area deeply shaped by emigration and depopulation.
We believe that poetry is a form of resistance.
We are guided by Novoneyra’s line, And yet the earth is young! (E índa é nova a terra!), which inspires our work as a cultural organisation committed to a mountain landscape that has been, for over 70 years, a literary realm forged by Uxío Novoneyra.
The Foundation wishes to honour former members of the Board of Trustees, extending our lasting gratitude for their dedication and support:
